Project Title: McKeen Car Addition (Jacobsen Interpretive Center)
Agency: Museum
Division: MusHist
Department: T&CultAffr
Project Manager: RMO
Description: Addition to the Jacobsen Interpretive Center of the exhibition for the restored McKeen car and two restored railroad freight cars.
Location: Carson City
DI_Location_2: 0
Project Description: The scope of this project would would fund the design and construction of an approximately 5,000 sf addition to the west side of the Jacobsen Interpretative Center. The west wall of the Interpretive Center was originally built as “temporary” anticipating the need for future expansion. The addition will house and exhibit the historic McKeen Motor Car as well as two additional restored freight cars . The restoration of the McKeen car is now complete, but it must remain in the Railroad Museum’s restoration shop until additional space can be constructed to house it. The restoration shop is not a suitable long term location since it prevents efficient workflow in the shop and does not allow adequate public access to the car. Expanding the current museum space to accommodate the cars, they will make them available for viewing and interpretation to the public.
