II. Narrative Section 
16. Project Description: This project replaces HVAC equipment that is at the end of its serviceable life  
17. Project Justification: The NSRM has heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in three of its buildings that past their serviceable lives. The Jacobsen Interpretive Center and Restoration shop have 7 gas-fired unit heaters (Reznor style) some of which that have been in service since the 1980s. The office areas have a conventional gas fired furnace and mechanical cooling. The heating is inadequate and in the public areas of the museum, there is no cooling. The heaters are also extremely loud. It is difficult to talk to the public while the heaters operate. This request is for the replacement of all heaters, mechanical coolers and the installation of a evaporative cooling system for the Jacobsen Interpretive center. In addition, this request includes upgraded controllers to take advantage of technology and reduce heating and cooling during un-occupied times. This was requested previously in prior CIPs
18. Project Background Information: The Nevada State Railroad Museum site includes the Jacobsen Interpretive Center, the Annex building (and extension), Restoration Shop, the Wabuska Depot, the Nelson House, a comfort station, a water tower, and the adjoining park.

21. Ramifications if the Project is not Approved (short essay): Continued deferred maintenance will increase the risk significant damage and costs for repair. Further, upon complete failure, the Museum will no longer be able to meet its mission and the public will no longer be able to access this significant part of Nevada’s history. Catastrophic failure will close the museum to the public.
