II. Narrative Section 
16. Project Description: This project will upgrade the existing fire/smoke dampers in building 25.
17. Project Justification: This project will replace the current fire/smoke dampers (71) and associated ductwork with retrofitted assemblies for conversion from Honeywell damper actuators to Belimo actuators and will tie the system to DDC monitoring. The fire/smoke dampers failed under inspection in March 2011 and were found to be defective. All the actuators were replaced with the same model equipment due to retrofitting issues. The fire/smoke dampers are required to be inspected every 6 years and fall under life/safety code traceable by JACHO for accreditation.
18. Project Background Information: The Dini-Townsend hospital was built in 2000 and the existing fire/smoke damper actuators have all been replaced in 2011 with the same models as originally installed in 2000.

Ramifications if the Project is not Approved (short essay): The failure of the fire/smoke dampers can cause people in the building to succumb to smoke asphyxiation and other environmental hazards. The ability to see, breathe and guide people to safety would be limited by smoke, that otherwise would have been isolated.
