Project Justification (Essay)
Project Description: Rehabilitate and restore the adobe ruins at Fort Churchill State Historic Park. This work needs to conform to SHPO requirements. Although these ruins were re-created, they need to be historically accurate. This project would restore and/or replace existing adobe bricks that have deteriorated over time. This project would include a stabilization agent to reduce the speed at which the adobe bricks deteriorate. this project should be completed by a mason experienced in rehabilitation of this type of construction.
Project Justification: The adobe bricks are created from historically accurate materials to best emulate the original construction. They are subject to rapid deterioration caused by the weather. They have been eroding since the day they were constructed. They have eroded to a degree that their interpretive value is being lost.
Project Background Information: The ruins were re-created as a historic education tool for the visitors. They were constructed of hand/man made adobe bricks as an interpretive element to show the historic significance of the site. These historically accurate materials break down rapidly when exposed to the elements. Therefore, they have been eroding since the day they were re-constructed.

Ramifications if the Project is not Approved
(Short Essay): If this project is not approved, the recreated ruins will continue to deteriorate. Eventually they would be completely lost. This would cause the loss of historic interpretive elements at the park that are a center element of the park.
