II. Narrative Section 
Project Justification (Essay)
Project Description: This project would allow the agency to comply with criteria established by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) pertaining to building signage for permanent spaces in buildings. The criteria includes: sign mounting heights and locations; character heights and proportions, raised and Braille characteristics/pictograms; and sign contrast and finish. This project would provide for directional signage along the accessible route of travel between buildings site wide and for permanent spaces in buildings.
Project Justification: The agency is currently out of compliance with criteria for building signage as established by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Because the mission of Sierra Regional Center is to serve people with developmental disabilities, it is important that it meets the criteria establish by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Project Background Information: This projected is recommended by State Public Works and is a level 1 priority. It was recommended in the Facility Condition Analysis Report from November 2006

(Short Essay): If this project is not approved, the agency will remain out of compliance with criteria established by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regarding building signage. These accessibility requirements were established by the 1990 ADA guidelines, Title I and II. Failure to comply with these regulations could leave the State at risk of legal action challenging conformance withthese regulations.
