Project Justification (Essay)
Project Description: The project provides HVAC units and air distribution in the Nevada State Museum’s basement to address potential life safety air quality issues for staff and volunteers and to improve conservation of museum collections.
Project Justification: The project addresses potential life safety air quality issues for staff and volunteers by providing heating, cooling, and ventilation consistent with current standards. The project will improve air quality critical for conserving valuable and irreplaceable history and natural history collections documenting Nevada’s heritage. Currently, no HVAC exists in the basement. The basement houses offices and work areas for fourteen staff. Volunteers regularly work in the basement. The museum’s workshop for preparing exhibits and maintaining facilities and equipment is located in the basement. The museum’s strategic plan calls for long-term use of the basement for staff offices, work areas, and the workshop.
